The Board, together with other registration boards, took part in a
comprehensive review of health occupational legislation carried out by the
Ministry of Health over recent years. It was consulted on the drafting of
the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Bill tabled in Parliament in
June 2002.
The HPCA Act was passed by Parliament
on 18 September 2003 and came
into effect on 18
September 2004. It replaced
the Medical Auxiliaries Act 1966.
